Yes, if you translate each skill area into interview signals and work samples. For mid-to-senior hires, request a short case: draft an experiment plan, propose guardrails for AI-assisted creative, and explain measurement assumptions. Then score the output against the matrix and ask follow-ups using behavioral questions. This approach avoids hiring people who “sound AI-native” but cannot run safe, measurable marketing work.

5) How often should we update the matrix, given how fast AI tools change?

Update the matrix on a stable cadence (often annually), and allow small quarterly edits for urgent changes. The matrix should describe durable behaviors—guardrails, measurement discipline, decision logs, and cross-functional alignment—more than tool-specific tricks. Tools change monthly; governance and evidence standards should not. Keep a change log, appoint an owner, and review the matrix after each performance cycle for practical friction points.
