You do not replace your ATS to get an AI voice pre-interview: you put it in front of the ATS as a connected layer. Candidates answer a few role-specific questions by voice, and a scored summary with a transcript lands next to the application in Greenhouse, Workday, Personio or whichever system you run. Sprad is connected to Ashby, d.vinci and Personio today; any other system with an API can be connected, and the scope per system is agreed in a conversation, not assumed (status 5 November 2026). Whether a "video interview" button exists in your ATS matters less than the route below.
Which routes exist to add a voice interview to an ATS?
Whatever your system, there are three routes. Which one fits depends on your engineering capacity, your data protection requirements and how much of the flow you want inside the ATS.
- The ATS vendor's own add-on. Some vendors sell their own AI interviewer. Good if you want one contract; check plan, region and data processing terms.
- A connected specialist tool. A separate provider invites candidates, runs the interview and sends the result back through the ATS's interface. This is the route Sprad takes: your ATS stays the system of record.
- Your own build. Webhooks tell you what happens, the API writes results back. You own security, retries and maintenance.
In our conversations with recruiting teams, the LinkedIn licence or the ATS is almost never swapped out in one step. Teams run the new layer alongside and decide later. A connected tool fits that pattern.
What does each ATS offer, and where does Sprad stand?
The middle column below comes from the vendors' own developer documentation as we read it on 5 November 2026; "not documented" means we found nothing reliable, not that nothing exists. The right column is what we can say about Sprad.
| System | What the system itself offers | Sprad status |
|---|---|---|
| Greenhouse | Harvest API (REST); v1/v2 deprecated, v3 is the successor; webhooks with signature; assessment partners | Connectable via API and webhooks |
| Workday Recruiting | SOAP web services for candidates and requisitions, OAuth 2.0 API clients; webhooks not documented | Connectable via the system's interface |
| Personio | REST API v1/v2; recruiting v2 reads applications and candidates; webhooks currently for the person entity only | Connected |
| SmartRecruiters | Customer API, webhook subscriptions, API key or OAuth 2.0 | Connectable via API and webhooks |
| SAP SuccessFactors | OData API with Candidate and JobApplication; role-based permissions | Connectable via the system's interface |
| Lever | Data API (REST), webhooks for stage change and hire, API key or OAuth for partner apps | Connectable via API and webhooks |
| Ashby | REST API with per-module read/write permissions, webhooks | Connected |
| d.vinci | No current public documentation found; an older overview mentions REST interfaces | Connected |
| softgarden | No general customer API for candidate data documented; frontend, apply and assessment APIs exist | Clarify first |
| Teamtailor, JOIN, Recruitee | REST APIs; Teamtailor and Recruitee document webhooks | Connectable via API |
| rexx, onlyfy, iCIMS, concludis | Partial or no public documentation for candidate data | Clarify first |
Two things stand out. Several systems let a customer admin create credentials, others only open access to partners. And webhooks, the trigger for "invite the candidate when they reach a stage", are documented for some systems and not for others. Without them, a tool has to poll or use a link on your career site.
Does Greenhouse or Personio have a video interview?
Partly, and it is a different thing from a voice pre-screen. Video interviews in an ATS usually mean a live call with a recruiter or a one-way recording that a person watches later. A voice pre-screen is short, asynchronous and structured: every applicant answers the same questions, and the answers are transcribed and scored against your criteria. Why we lean towards voice for the first step is in our guide on voice, video or phone screening. If you want video later in the process, keep it in the ATS; the pre-screen simply sits before it.
How does a voice pre-screen get into the ATS flow?
A typical flow has four steps, and each needs an agreement with your ATS team:
- Trigger. The invitation goes out when someone applies or enters a stage, or candidates start from a link on your career site.
- Interview. The candidate talks to the AI for a few minutes on a phone or laptop, with questions tied to the role's criteria.
- Result. A score, a short rationale and a link to the transcript appear with the application.
- Decision. A person reviews. Nothing is rejected automatically; every rejection waits for someone on your team.
What exactly is written back is a design decision. Less is more: one score with its scale, a link to the report and two or three lines of rationale. We describe the pattern in what has to flow back into your ATS.
How do candidates choose their interview slot?
In Sprad's screening, the candidate picks their own interview time in the candidate portal; only the slots that are still free are shown. That works for any ATS because it does not need access to your interviewers' calendars. If you also want panel interviews scheduled automatically, that is a different job. Greenhouse, for instance, documents its own scheduling tools with limits such as a 30-day window; check the current documentation for your system.
What does Sprad do, and what does it not claim?
Sprad connects in both directions with your existing ATS or CRM, so nothing has to be replaced. Connected today: Ashby, d.vinci and Personio. For every other system with an API we say: connectable via the system's interface, scope per system to be clarified in conversation. We do not claim that a specific function runs inside a given system or writes particular fields or stages there.
Around this, Sprad offers an open API and webhooks, an MCP connector for Claude and ChatGPT, free reports and exports, and free data import from Excel and ATS exports. Candidates keep control of their data. The ATS integration is booked as a connection (100 credits per connection); it is included in Atlas Base Pro and Max, and with Atlas Recruiter from three licences, where Sprad builds the connection. Current prices are on the pricing page.
What does it cost? A worked example
Assumptions, status 5 November 2026, net: 2,500 applications a year. Screening costs 0.49 € per application (CV screening, chat interviews, candidate portal). Voice interviews for every fifth applicant add 0.20 € per application, so 0.69 € in total.
| Item | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Screening incl. voice | 2,500 × 0.69 € | 1,725 € a year |
| Voice interviews held | every fifth of 2,500 | about 500 |
| Phone screens replaced (assumption: 15 minutes each) | 500 × 15 min | about 125 hours |
| ATS connection | 100 credits per connection | see pricing |
The hours are an assumption, not a measurement; replace them with your own numbers. If you run fewer than a few hundred applications a year, the free account with 100 credits a month is the place to test first.
What should you ask your ATS team and every vendor?
- Data flow: which fields leave your ATS, which come back, and where are audio and transcripts stored (region, subprocessors)?
- Rights: which API permissions are needed, can they be limited to one job or stage, and who creates and revokes credentials?
- Deletion: how long are recordings and scores kept, and does deletion in the ATS delete them at the provider too?
- Roles and contract: who is the controller, who the processor, is there a data processing agreement, and are subprocessors listed?
- Works council: has it been involved, and which system behaviour could be used to monitor staff or applicants?
- Human review: is every rejection a human click, and can candidates reach a person?
- Exit: can you export everything and switch the layer off without touching the ATS?
What does the law require in Germany and the EU?
This is general information, not legal advice (status 5 November 2026).
- GDPR. You need a legal basis under Article 6, information duties under Articles 13 and 14, a data processing agreement under Article 28 and, for high-risk processing, often a data protection impact assessment under Article 35. Article 22 protects people from decisions based solely on automated processing; real human review matters.
- Works council. Under section 87(1) no. 6 BetrVG technical systems suited to monitor behaviour or performance are subject to co-determination; section 90 covers information on AI use and section 95 selection guidelines.
- Equal treatment. The AGG applies to selection regardless of the tool.
- EU AI Act. Prohibitions under Article 5 apply since 2 February 2025, transparency duties under Article 50 from 2 August 2026. The high-risk duties for recruiting AI (Annex III) apply from 2 December 2027 under Regulation (EU) 2026/1744.
FAQ
Do I have to replace my ATS to use an AI voice interview?
No. The voice interview runs as a connected layer before or next to the ATS, which stays the system of record.
Which ATS is Sprad connected to?
Ashby, d.vinci and Personio today. Other systems with an API can be connected; for larger plans Sprad builds the connection.
Does my ATS need webhooks?
Not strictly. Webhooks allow an automatic invitation at a stage change. Without them, candidates can start from a link on your career site.
Can a voice interview reject candidates automatically?
No. In Sprad nobody is rejected automatically; every rejection waits for someone on your team.
Is a video interview in Greenhouse or Personio the same thing?
No. Video is usually a live or recorded interview a person watches. Voice pre-screening is structured and scored. See our guide on voice, video or phone screening.
How do candidates book their interview?
They choose a free slot in the candidate portal; only slots still available are shown.
What does the ATS connection cost?
100 credits per connection, included in Atlas Base Pro and Max and with Atlas Recruiter from three licences. See pricing.
Where can I compare tools?
Our overview of AI voice interview software compares the options.
The short version: where Sprad fits
Swapping your ATS just to add one step is rarely worth it, and the more you depend on one platform, the more it costs to leave. Sprad adds the step instead: an AI voice pre-interview that connects to the ATS you already use, with a transparent score and human decisions. Screening costs 0.49 € per application, 0.69 € with voice interviews, and you can start with the free account. See AI interview and CV screening.
