You find security guards in Germany in 2026 by advertising on Instagram and Facebook, where career changers and shift workers already spend time every day, and by pre-screening applicants on their phones before anyone on your team makes a call. The industry employs about 290,000 people, and most of its 6,000 companies hire regionally and at the same time. Three things decide the result: an ad with hourly pay and site, a short application route via WhatsApp, and pre-screening that clears the § 34a licence, police clearance and shift availability up front. As of October 2026.
How big is the security industry, and how tight is the market?
According to the German Federal Association of the Security Industry (BDSW), about 290,000 people worked in the sector in mid-2025, a record. Revenue rose from €7.0 billion in 2015 to €14.0 billion in 2024. There are almost 6,000 companies, most of them regional. A growing sector has to keep hiring, and every company competes with the others in its own area.

Hard vacancy figures are rare. The BDSW spoke of about 12,000 positions that could not be filled in 2016, and there is no newer official number for the guarding sector. Industry voices name demographics, the image of the job and pay as causes. There are formal hurdles on top: to guard property in Germany you need at least the briefing under § 34a of the Trade Regulation Act (GewO), for many assignments the expertise exam, a clean police clearance certificate and good German. That shrinks the pool before your search starts.
Where is the target group?
Job boards mostly reach people who are actively looking. In security the interesting group is another one: workers from hospitality, retail, warehouses or care assistance who are used to shifts and would move for better hourly pay or more reliable rosters. Add side-job seekers and people who have just completed the § 34a briefing. They are all on their phones, not on job boards. So:
- Feed instead of portal: paid ads on Instagram and Facebook, shown regionally.
- Pay and site in the ad: site, reception, event or patrol, plus hourly rate and shift pattern.
- No CV: a short questionnaire on the phone instead of a cover letter.
- Reply the same day: applicants who write to several companies go with the fastest.
Meta’s “employment” ad category restricts targeting by age, gender and postcode. Check the current rules in Ads Manager. Write every ad as “(m/f/d)” and without hints at age or gender, which German equal-treatment law (AGG) forbids. Sample ad for security staff
This is an invented template so you can see the structure. Replace pay, location and benefits with your real values. The statutory minimum wage in Germany is €13.90 per hour in 2026, and the guarding sector has its own collective agreements by federal state.
Security officer (m/f/d) § 34a, site security Frankfurt am Main
From €16.50 per hour, fixed rosters with two weekends off per month, supplements for nights and public holidays. Do you hold the § 34a briefing or expertise exam? Tap “Apply now”, answer five questions on WhatsApp and we get back to you today.
The template names what applicants want to know first: pay, roster and whether they can plan weekends. The application route is small and the reply is fast.
Pre-screening: five questions before the first call
In security, formal requirements decide before personality does. An AI talent agent can ask them around the clock via WhatsApp, phone or web, also at night when applicants have time after their shift:

- Qualification: § 34a briefing or expertise exam, since when?
- Reliability: is a clean police clearance certificate possible, and is the registration in the guard registry clear?
- Language: good spoken and written German, as the Trade Regulation Act expects for the job?
- Duty: site, reception, event or patrol, nights and weekends possible?
- Location and start: home address, commute to the site in minutes, earliest start.
Your dispatch team then only sees applicants who can be deployed on paper. More on the principle in screening blue-collar applicants.
Budget example: what does it cost to hire security staff?
Social media recruiting charges for reach, not for the hire. The example shows orders of magnitude. It is neither a forecast nor a guarantee of applicants, and the salary of €2,600 gross per month is an assumption.
| Model | Calculation | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Ad spend plus 10 % (Sprad), 1 role | €1,000 budget over 3 months | €1,100 total |
| Ad spend plus 10 %, 5 roles | €5,000 budget, can be split | €5,500 total |
| Social agency with flat fee | €5,000 per position, according to the provider | €5,000 per role |
| Commission model | 14 to 22 % of annual salary, assumed €31,200 (€2,600 × 12) | €4,368 to €6,864 per hire |
How many applications a budget brings depends on region, pay and ad. A thought experiment: if one application costs €30 (assumption), €1,000 of budget gives about 33 applications. If one in three passes pre-screening, you talk to about eleven candidates. Recalculate with your own numbers once the first data is in. For comparison, the Boostpoint Benchmark 2026 reports a US median of $13.88 per applicant, which does not automatically hold for Germany or security roles. Agency and commission prices come from the providers, as of October 2026.
Five regions, five angles
- Berlin: many events and sites, applicants choose between many companies, roster reliability sets you apart.
- Hamburg: port, events and retail, name shift patterns and night supplements early.
- Rhine-Main: airport, trade fair and office sites, state the commute to the site in the ad.
- Munich: high living costs, state hourly pay and supplements clearly.
- Rhine-Ruhr: a dense network of sites and cities, bundle several locations in one campaign.
The regions are examples, not measurements. Name the specific site or assignment in the ad, not just the city.
