Indeed costs nothing for up to three free job posts per month, and a sponsored job starts at a minimum price of €15 per job in Germany. After that, Indeed bills you per started application (Germany) or per click (mostly US), set by auction, so there is no rate card. Practice reports put typical monthly budgets for one role at €200 to €500, and a CV-database subscription at around €400 per month. All figures are reported values as of 3 October 2026 and depend on role, region and competition.
What you actually pay for on Indeed
Indeed is a job search engine, not a classic job board with a price per ad. You do not buy a placement, you buy attention from people who are already searching for a job. That is why the price page is a set of rules, not a list of numbers. Four things can show up on your invoice.
| Product | How it is billed | Reported price | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free job posts | none | €0, up to 3 per calendar month since 10 Dec 2025 | testing one role, low-urgency hires |
| Sponsored Jobs | per started application (Germany), per click (US daily budget) | minimum €15 per job; US clicks $0.10 to $5+ | one urgent role in a market with active job seekers |
| Smart Sourcing | subscription with a contact allowance | €400 per month or €3,840 per year for 100 contacts (partner price, Germany) | active search in the CV database |
| Managed campaign | fee plus ad spend, through a partner | from about €430 for 30 days (partner example) | teams without time to steer a campaign |
Indeed itself says sponsored jobs bring roughly 50 % more applications in Germany than unpaid posts. Free posts still work, but they slide down the results as newer jobs arrive.

Click or started application: how billing changed
For years Indeed charged per click. In Germany the model switched to pay per started application on 1 March 2024, according to Personalwirtschaft. You pay when a candidate begins the application, not when someone only looks at the ad. Indeed explained the move as a more efficient use of employer budgets and signalled that it may extend the model further.
That sounds fairer, and it often is. Two details matter, though. First, a started application is not a finished or qualified one, so you can pay for a candidate who never completes the form. Second, the price per started application is set in an auction, so the same job in Munich and in a small town can differ a lot. In the US, employers still choose between a daily budget (billed per click) and a monthly budget (billed per started application).
Minimum budgets and the fine print
- Minimum price in Germany: €15 per sponsored job and month. Personalwirtschaft reported it as a floor for premium listings, and the sources disagree on the exact start date, so confirm it in your account.
- US floor: $5 per day as the entry point, and several guides report a $25 per day floor per posting since July 2025. Check your own dashboard, this value changes.
- Free post limit: up to three per calendar month. Job boards and recruitment agencies are excluded from the free offer in Indeed's terms.
- Feed-based organic visibility: reported as restricted from March 2026, which pushes employers toward paid reach.
The consequence is the same for every employer: you cannot plan the cost per hire from a price page. You plan it from your own first two weeks of data.
Worked examples: one role and five roles
Indeed does not publish a cost per application, so the examples use an assumption. Employer reports put the cost per application at roughly €15 to €50, with the lower end for hourly and rural roles. This is arithmetic from that assumption, not a promise.
One role, one month
A budget of €500 at €20 per started application gives about 25 started applications. At €50 it gives 10. Not every started application becomes a qualified candidate, so plan for a fraction of that. On top of the budget you spend time sorting and answering applicants.
Five roles, one month
Five roles at the same €500 each cost €2,500 per month, and the minimum price rules apply per job. For comparison, Sprad Social Recruiting bills your ad budget plus 10 %, from a €1,000 budget that you can split across roles: €3,000 of budget for five roles costs €3,300 in total. The two numbers buy different things. Indeed buys attention from people who search for a job. Social ads reach people who scroll and are not looking yet, and that is where many frontline workers are.

Hidden costs that are not on the price page
- Started is not qualified. You pay for the start of the application. The screening effort and the drop-offs are yours.
- Auction pressure. Competitive metros and tech roles sit at the top of the click range of $3 to $5+, rural hourly roles near $0.10 to $0.50.
- Budget caps that end early. A daily budget can be used up before the day ends, so the ad disappears when many people search.
- Subscriptions on top. Smart Sourcing is a separate subscription. In the US the Professional tier is reported between $300 and $520 per month, with extra contacts billed individually.
- Scale. Vendr data cited by HeroHunt shows a median Indeed contract of about $15,000 per year across 72 deals, so spend often grows beyond the first test.
- No pool of your own. Applicants arrive in Indeed's inbox. When you stop paying, the reach stops, and you start again with the next vacancy.
Is Indeed worth it?
For white-collar and urban roles where people actively search, yes. Indeed has the traffic, the entry cost is low, and the free tier lets you test. For frontline roles such as nurses, drivers or tradespeople the answer is more mixed. Many of them do not search job sites on a Tuesday afternoon. They read their phone in a break, and they answer WhatsApp faster than email, which we describe in our guide to frontline recruiting by phone and WhatsApp.
A fair rule: use Indeed for the people who are looking, and a second channel for the people who are not. If you also rely on a classic board, our guides on StepStone costs and the StepStone alternatives show how those prices compare.
Cheaper and more flexible ways to reach candidates
- Use the three free posts first. Test the job title and text before you pay.
- Cap the budget per role. Set a monthly cap and review cost per qualified candidate after two weeks, not per start.
- Add social ads for roles that do not search. Instagram and Facebook reach frontline workers in their daily feed.
- Keep the contacts. Move every applicant into your own database so the next vacancy does not start from zero.
The Sprad approach: your own pool instead of rented reach
Sprad Social Recruiting runs job ads on Instagram and Facebook, where nurses, tradespeople, drivers and other frontline workers spend time every day. An AI talent agent pre-screens every applicant via WhatsApp, phone or web. Every applicant lands in the employer's own talent pool, so the relationships stay with the employer instead of a platform. Pricing is ad spend plus 10 %, from a €1,000 budget that can be split across roles. Learn more on Sprad Social Recruiting and on the pricing page. Both exist. In Germany sponsored jobs are billed per started application since March 2024. In the US a daily budget is billed per click and a monthly budget per started application.

That depends on the role. For frontline workers who do not search job sites, social ads on Instagram and Facebook with pre-screening are a strong second channel, and the applicants stay in your own pool.
